Ted served as a panelist for a Beard Group webinar discussing the evolution of Chapter 9 of the U.S. Bankruptcy Code and how it pertains to the bankruptcy filing of the City of Detroit. Joining Ted on the panel was Kenneth Noble, partner, Katten Muchin Rosenman; and Patrick Mears, partner, Barnes & Thornbug.

During the 25th Annual Forum for the Eastern District of Pennsylvania Bankruptcy Conference (EDPA) in Atlantic City, NJ, Ted was a panelist on the “60 in 60” panel, which reviewed 60 key decisions of 2013 in 60 minutes.

January 8-10, 2014

Ted spoke on two panels at the National CLE Conference in Vail, Colorado. The first topic was ‘Advanced Financial Issues in Reorganization – Wisdom from Our Turnaround Professionals,’ and the second panel covered ‘Creditor Committee Representation Issues: Standing to Pursue Estate Causes of Action, SPM Gifts, Claims Against D&Os and Lenders.

At the ABI Winter Leadership Conference in Rancho Palos Verdes, CA, Ted participated in a panel discussion, entitled, “The Chief Restructuring Officer’s Guide to Bankruptcy,” in which he and fellow panelists (who were also co-authors of the ABI publication of the same name), discussed various issues raised in the book and provided practical insight into the rights and responsibilities of CROs in distressed situations. Ted also had the unexpected honor of introducing the evening’s headliner, Jay Leno!

Ted spoke during the "Ethics Hour" at the Beard Group's 20th Annual Distressed Investing Conference in New York City. The panel examined timely ethical topics in the corporate restructuring industry such as the implications of “shareholder activism going mainstream” for distressed companies, and how distressed companies and their advisors should handle activist stakeholders whose actions are detrimental to the company's prospects of restructuring.

Ted gave a talk, along with ABI National Ethics Task Force Reporter and colleague, Professor Nancy Rapoport, on Nov. 8th from 3PM – 4:30 PM at the University of Minnesota Law School for the Judge Nancy C. Dreher Lecture on Bankruptcy Law & Practice. The educational program established by the American College of Bankruptcy and the Corporate Institute at the University of Minnesota Law School, will focus on "Ethics in Action: the ABI National Ethics Task Force Report and its Next Steps." Reception to immediately follow and attendance is open to all. Registration is available until November 1.

Boris Steffen

April 2013

Boris Steffen served as a panelist, an interview expert witness and aided in a presentation on "Valuation In Confirmation Issues" presented by the Delaware Bankruptcy Inn of Court. This program was chosen by The Delaware Bankruptcy Inn of Court as best program for 2013. The program consisted of a mock Chapter 11 confirmation hearing in which the value of a medical supply company was contested. Boris acted as the valuation expert for the Second Lien creditors, and testified in mock testimony as to the flaws inherent to the assumptions, methodologies and conclusions of the valuation prepared by the debtor’s investment banking firm.

Boris Steffen taught and co-led a two-day seminar at American University's Washington College of Law on "Understanding Damages and Compensation in International Commercial and Investment Arbitration." The seminar was held on Sept. 26 and 27, and was designed to help legal practitioners navigate the economic, financial and accounting aspects of an arbitration, as well as acquire tools to be successful in all aspects of valuation in international arbitration.

Joe was selected as a speaker at this year's TEDxNJIT, which took place at the New Jersey Institute of Technology. Joe discussed transformations in the 21st century workplace, and how the landscape for LGBT issues is changing and progressing.

Joe joined OUT@Comcast, which is Comcast’s LGBT and Ally Employee Affinity group, for its end-of-year meeting at the company’s headquarters in Philadelphia. He discussed advances for diversity efforts in the workplace, how the LGBT landscape in the US has changed since DOMA was overturned in June, and a look ahead to 2014.
